Steff took Orion to see Dr. Gesensway to take off the cast and pull the pins. Orion's hand is tender but looks so much better. He needs to see Dr. Gesensway in three weeks to determine his range of motion of the two fingers.

Orion is running a fever of over 102 even with Tylenol with codeine. Nana took him to see Dr. Chang at All About Children. He has a double ear infection. He will get 10 days of antibiotics. Thank goodness it doesn't have to be refrigerated.

Steff and Erik took Orion to Dr. Gesensway who did surgery on the two small fingers on Orion's right hand. Surgery was done at the Centennial Lakes Surgery Center on France Ave. in Edina. Dr. Gesensway was able to remove the scar tissue and close the wounds without doing a skin graft. There are pins in Orion's fingers to help hold them open and he is in a solid cast. The cast can come off in 3 weeks.

Erik is taking Orion to Dr. Gesensway. Orion's pinky finger has tightened up so much that the finger can not be straightened.

Nana took Orion to see Dr. Gesensway, a hand specialist Judy Cherne (Orion's great Aunt) recommended. He said to come back and see him in 6 months. Orion will need to have surgery to correct the problem with the scar tissue.

Nana asked Orion's hand specialist if he thought the hand should have been splinted from the beginning. He believed that would have kept the fingers from curling. Orion's brace was cut down in size and reworked to trap just the pinky and ring finger.

At the International School today there was a large fair with games and food. While we were there Nana talked to a woman who told her about another child who had a similar experience to what Orion did to his hand. The Dr. on that case, insisted on splinting the hand as children of that age tend to curl the hand to protect it.

Orion saw a hand therapist today. He made a splint/brace for Orion's hand. We are to keep the brace on at night and cream the hand as much as possible.

Orion's fingers are curling Nana took him to see Dr. Heinrich. She never came in to see him, just her nurse. When asked if we should have splinted the fingers, she said children of that age don't need to have the fingers splint as they use them playing and the fingers will stay straight on their own. We got a referral to a hand therapy specialist.

Orion had his stitches removed in the operating room at Park Nicollet Hand Clinic in St. Paul by Dr. Heinrich. He doesn't need to have a splint put on the hand any more, just cream. We are to take him back in 6 weeks and to watch for curling of the fingers.

Bandages are finally being sent. Peter's order through 3M will beat this one. Dr. Heinrich's nurse never completed the paperwork for the order to go through.
August 20,2011
Bandages never came and no one knows where the order is. What a run around with Park Nicollet.
August 18, 2011
Erik and Nana took Orion to meet with hand specialist, Dr. Heinrich. She bandaged Orion's hand and said that we should bring him back in two weeks to have the stitches removed. Erik asked if we should be splinting it at night and Dr. Heinrich said we could if we wanted to. An order was set up for bandages to be delivered.

Orion tested out how pavement feels with his right hand from a moving go-kart at great grandma Elizabeth cottage in Manitowish Waters. Sara, Peter and Cathy Long (Orion's great aunt) made a fast trip to the hospital in Woodruff, Wisconsin. Cathy was driving. The first thing we heard from the emergency room doctor was that Orion would possible lose a finger (the pinky) and we would have to transport to Marshfield, Wisconsin to have a specialist look at his hand. Jamie Long was at the cottage and Cathy called him to see if he could file a flight plan and fly Peter and Orion to the Twin Cities. Unfortunately there was bad weather. At the same time, Dr. Boyer, the local surgeon, came in and took Orion into the operating room and cleaned and stitched his fingers, bandaged up his hand and said that all was working and we could head home the next evening.

The night before.... I don't know if that is normal.
8:30 ish in the morning getting ready for the days events.
There was an emergency C-section so we didn't get going until 10 or so, but by 10:19 He was out! Speedy. The nurse in the back has him.
On the way to have all the checks done.
Getting his weight and measurements.
And now we are all together in one room. More pictures and video to come when I have a better system to compile a page!
